Samuel L. Duboc
President and Managing Partner
Sam founded EdgeStone in February 1999. From 1994 to 1999, he served as Managing Director and member of the Deals Review Committee at CIBC Capital Partners, the merchant banking division of CIBC. At CIBC Capital Partners, he successfully invested in a wide variety of industries including, among others, media, retail, restaurants and agriculture. From 1991 to 1994, he co-founded and developed the Loyalty Group Inc. (Air Miles Reward Program), Canada's most successful loyalty database marketing program, and served as COO. From 1990 to 1991, he served as COO of Holzman Jewellers, a U.S. based privately owned jewelry chain. From 1984 to 1990, he worked at Bain & Company.
Sam serves on the Board of Directors of Aurigen Re Capital Limited, Custom Direct, New Food Classics, Porter Aviation Holdings, Solace Systems, Trimaster Manufacturing and Bryker Technology Partners LP. He is a former director of Alliance Films, BFI Canada, Richards Packaging and Hair Club Group. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University magna cum laude and a M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He was recognized in 2000 as one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 and named one of the "Most Influential" alumni of the program in 2005; was nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award in 2006 and in 2007 and is a member of the Young President's Organization (YPO). Sam is Chairman of the Board of Pathways to Education Canada and its Foundation Cabinet, a member of the Board of Directors of the CAMH Foundation and a member of the Toronto City Summit Alliance Steering Committee.

Gilbert S. Palter
Chief Investment Officer and Managing Partner
Gil joined EdgeStone in May 1999 as a co-founder. Prior to joining EdgeStone, he was the Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Eladdan Capital Partners, a Toronto-based private equity fund targeting middle-market Canadian and U.S. companies. He also founded Eladdan Enterprises, a boutique investment bank specializing in providing buy-side mergers and acquisitions advice to Canadian and U.S. companies, particularly on cross-border acquisitions and investments. Gil has previously worked at Morgan Stanley, Smith Barney, McKinsey & Company and Clairvest Group Inc.
Gil currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aurigen Re Capital Limited, BreconRidge Corporation, Continental Alloys & Services, Stephenson’s Rental Services and Specialty Catalog Corporation and is a member of the Board of Directors of Mitel Networks Corporation. He is a former Chairman of Hair Club Group, BFI Canada and Farley Windows and was previously a director of Alliance Films, Eurospec Manufacturing, Trimaster Manufacturing and Xantrex Technology.
Gil holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School where he attended on a Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship and graduated as a Baker Scholar and winner of the John L. Loeb Fellowship in Finance. He was the Gold Medalist in his graduating class at the University of Toronto where he attended on the J.W. Billes Scholarship earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Economics. Gil is involved in a number of philanthropic organizations. He was recognized in 2003 as one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40, was nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award in 2006 and in 2007 and is a member of the Young President's Organization (YPO).

Sandra Bosela
Partner, Equity Fund
Sandra joined EdgeStone in April 1999. Prior to joining EdgeStone, she worked at the predecessor firm to National Bank Financial in its investment banking group specializing in mergers and acquisitions where she was involved in a variety of buy and sell side assignments, fairness opinions and financial advisory assignments. Sandra also assisted on general corporate finance advisory work and equity financings.
Sandra serves on the Board of Directors of Specialty Catalog Corporation, Stephenson's Rental Services, Continental Alloys and Services and Trimaster Manufacturing. She was formerly an observer on the Board of Directors of Hair Club Group. Sandra holds an Honours Business Administration degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and completed the General Management Program (formerly PMD) at Harvard Business School. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Canada's Venture Capital & Private Equity Association ("CVCA") and the Association for Corporate Growth's ("ACG") Toronto Chapter.

Sandra Cowan

Sandra joined EdgeStone in October 2001 with 15 years of legal experience. Prior to that, she was a senior partner of Goodman and Carr LLP. Sandra's practice specialized in private equity and corporate finance transactions, including fund formation, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, cross-border and public market transactions. She is generally considered to be one of Canada's leading private equity lawyers and has been consistently recognized as a leading practitioner by Lexpert, one of Canada's foremost legal publication.
Sandra serves on the Board of Directors of Aurigen Re Capital Limited, Eurospec Manufacturing, New Food Classics, Specialty Catalog Corporation and Continental Alloys and Services. She is a former director of BFI Canada, Farley Windows, Hair Club Group and Richards Packaging. Sandra has a L.L.B. from the University of Western Ontario.

Michael Hollend
Partner, Venture Fund
Michael joined EdgeStone in January 2003. Prior to joining EdgeStone, Michael worked at Goodmans LLP where he built-out and managed the Ventures Group, a division of the firm dedicated to investing in and working with early stage technology companies. Under Michael’s guidance, the investments made by the Ventures Group generated significant positive returns for the investors. Previously he worked at Griffiths McBurney & Partners (now GMP Securities L.P.) in the Corporate Finance department where he worked on a number of equity financings for technology, communications and media companies.
Michael serves on the Board of Directors of Protus IP Solutions (Chairman), Overlay TV, Maximum Throughput, MusicIP and pVelocity. He is also an observer on the Board of Directors of RedMere and Shoplogix. Past EdgeStone portfolio companies with which Michael was involved include Datawire Communication Networks (sold to First Data Corporation – NYSE:FDC), Decision Dynamics (TSX-V:DDY), RSS Solutions (sold to Visiprise), SlipStream Data (sold to Research in Motion – Nasdaq:RIMM) and Workbrain (TSX:WB). Michael holds both M.B.A. and L.L.B. degrees from the University of Toronto and a B.A. (Economics) from the University of Western Ontario.

Bryan W. Kerdman
Partner, Venture Fund
Bryan joined EdgeStone as Partner in October 2000, shortly after forming Bryker Technology Partners, a seed-stage internet infrastructure fund, in partnership with EdgeStone's predecessor. At age 19 Bryan founded and was President and CEO of Bryker Data Systems, a technology outsourcing service provider specializing in mission-critical large-scale transaction systems which developed many of Canada's internet banking applications. Bryan sold Bryker in 1994 and went on to manage and be CEO of a number of other technology companies including Technolabs Canada and e-route. Bryan has been an active venture capital investor since 1987.
Bryan serves on the Board of Directors of Solace Systems and Varicent Software. Past EdgeStone portfolio companies with which Bryan was involved include Datawire Communication Networks (sold to First Data), Workbrain (sold to Infor), INEA Corporation (sold to Business Objects), Protus IP Solutions, and SlipStream Data (sold to Research in Motion).

Martin Longchamps

Martin joined EdgeStone in January 2003. Prior to joining EdgeStone, he worked with CDP Capital Communications and Bell Canada International where he was involved in project financing and restructuring activities. Prior to that, Martin has also worked at Monitor Company where he worked on a broad range of assignments including re-engineering, corporate strategy and industry review.
Martin serves on the Board of Directors of Eurospec Manufacturing Inc. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University.

Stephen O. Marshall
Partner, Equity Fund
Steve joined EdgeStone as a Partner in June 2002 and has over 25 years of transaction and corporate development experience. From 1999 until 2002, he was Executive Vice President, Corporate Development of MDC Corporation (now MDC Partners Inc.), a diversified business services corporation listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, with investments in specialty printing, marketing and communications, direct selling, card manufacturing and technology services. From 1982 to 1999, Steve worked at Torys, one of Canada's leading transactional law firms, where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions and financing. He became a partner at Torys in 1990 and from 1995 to 1998 was Managing Partner of Torys' European office based in London, England.
Steve is Chairman of the Board of Custom Direct and serves on the Board of Directors of Porter Aviation Holdings, Trimaster Manufacturing and Eurospec Manufacturing. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Richards Packaging and served on the Board of Directors of Farley Windows. He holds a L.L.B from the University of Western Ontario and a M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Steve is a member of the Board of Directors of the Sunnybrook Foundation and the Canadian Opera Company.

Victor Roskey
Partner, Energy Fund
Vic joined EdgeStone in October 2007. Vic is based in Calgary and brings to the Fund broad oil and gas private equity, financial, managerial and operational experience, including in the areas of investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, project finance and capital restructurings. Prior to joining EdgeStone, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Enterra Energy Trust, a publicly-traded oil and gas income trust, where he was responsible for all financial and administrative functions of the Trust. His private equity experience includes close to ten years with Citibank Canada’s Private Equity Group, where he was a Managing Director and a member of the Investment Committee. Vic has served on numerous public and private company boards.
Vic has a L.L.B. from the Osgoode Hall Law School, York University.

Derek Smyth
Partner, Venture Fund
Derek joined EdgeStone as Partner in February 2004. Prior to joining EdgeStone he was President and CEO of Bridgewater Systems Corporation. Before joining Bridgewater Systems, he held the position of COO at Ironside Technologies, where he was responsible for the overall direction of global business development, marketing, sales operations and product development. As COO, Derek grew the business from start-up phase to a multi-national organization, and a team of 14 to 240, while raising $72M in private equity. Previously, he held a number of positions with Bay Networks Canada and Radius Inc.
Derek serves on the Board of Directors of CiRBA, pVelocity, RedMere Technology and Shoplogix. Past EdgeStone portfolio companies with which Derek was involved include Decision Dynamics (TSX-V:DDY), Maximum Throughput and RSS Solutions (sold to Visiprise). He holds a B.A. (Commerce and Economics), University of Toronto and completed the Enterprise Program for Growing Companies (EPGC), Stanford University.

John Gort
Chief Financial Officer
John joined EdgeStone in October 2005. Prior to joining EdgeStone, he worked at Bisys Private Equity Services, a fund administration firm in New York where he held the position of Director covering several international funds. His responsibilities included managing client relationships, financial statement preparation and related administrative functions. Prior to that, he was a Vice President in the Controlling function at Deutsche Bank in both New York and London, U.K. The later part of his eight year career there covered their Private Equity group. He also held positions with Dresdner Kleinwort Benson (U.K.), NatWest Bank (U.K.), Price Waterhouse Coopers and Grant Thornton in Canada.
John holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo and has obtained his C.A. and C.F.A. designations.
